Abstract

The desire to travel, whether to be warm in a cold season or from curiosity, can be a material force that, understood, helps to explain both the behavior of birds and history. In recent times, as this force became "tourism," a certain uniformity of experience characteristic of commodity form appeared. North Korea is one of the few places on the globe the rich cannot more or less freely visit. Therefore we provide you the useful anachronism of the diary of an intelligent traveller to North Korea. This is but a quick impression of a place where tragedy and resistance have been daily fare for quite some time. - The Editors
