Abstract

My approach to this question is that of a first generation Chinese-American woman who was born during World War I and became a Marxist in 1941 after many years of study in Western and particularly Hegelian natural progression. In the nearly 50 years since then I have been a Movement activist, living for the last 36 years in the inner city of Detroit. Once celebrated as the Arsenal of Democracy, Detroit is today disintegrating economically, politically, socially, ethically, and morally. Decomposing in the belly of the capitalist monster, it is now as devastated as any city at capitalism's periphery.
