Abstract

At the end if the December 1985 Review if the Month ("The Financial Explosion"), we invited readers to share their ideas about "what would be the long-run implications if government's undertaking to guarantee the financial system against the kind of collapse and generalized deflation that was the prelude to the Great Depression of the 1930s." What follows is a concluding excerpt from a long communication by Steve Brouwer, who writes on politics, economics, and culture and is a carpenter and builder by trade.
