Abstract

In this space in the September 1984 issue of MR ("A Lesson from History") we posed the following questions: Can we imagine a new New Deal that would have a better chance of survival than the old New Deal? What would it look like? Who would be its friends and who its enemies? What would be its priorities? Its relation to existing parties? Would it need to form its own political party? These are not purely theoretical questions. They arise out of our own country's unique historical experience. We hope to explore them, along with other related questions, in future issues of MR.
