Abstract

It has often been pointed out that Marxism brought together three great intellectual currents—German philosophy, French socialism, and English political economy. To each it brought its own interpretations and modifications, but its originality consisted not so much in innovations of this kind as in the whole it fashioned from these elements. This was new, unprecedented, and earth-shaking in its implications.
