Abstract

In a spirit of friendly disagreement, I would like to offer a short and, I hope, constructive criticism of the article, "Class Power and Alienated Labor," by Samuel Bowles and Herbert Gintis in the March 1975 issue of Monthly Review. This article's main point is to show "that alienation is a social rather than a psychological problem at its root," and that it occurs "not because of the nature of technology and the division of labor, but because of the nature of class structure and the social relations of production."
