June 24, 1975. On the main road to Machava Stadium, Lourenco Marques, Mozambique. Soon to be free Mozambique—the People's Republic of Mozambique. But now, a driving rainstorm, heavy traffic. Will we make it by midnight to see the Portuguese flag come down and the new Mozambican flag replace it?
