Class Struggles in Portugal, Part I
AbstractMy first inclination was to write on the "Portuguese Revolution," but on further consideration I decided that this choice of title might be more misleading than helpful. In one sense, to be sure, what is happening in Portugal today is most certainly a revolutionary process. The old structure of power has been overturned, and the established pattern of social relations has been thrown into turmoil. What started out as a military coup at the center and top on April 25, 1974, has spread outward and downward to encompass the entire Portuguese social order.
