Abstract

After the failure of the development strategies pursued during the 1960s, a complete rethinking of development policies is now taking place all over the world. Pakistan, which was considered a model for developing countries during the 1960s, is again in the forefront with a new strategy. The purpose of this article is to examine the achievements and failures of the 1960s, try to assess the chances of success of the present strategy, and finally to suggest an alternative strategy of development.
