Abstract

With the military takeover of 1966, imperialism launched a general offensive in Argentina. The economic strategy of imperialism and its local allies entailed the liquidation of small and medium-sized enterprises, the control of large industry and banking by international capital, and the increased exploitation of the working class. The consequences for the majority of the population have been grim: a constant rise in the cost of living, the closing of enterprises, unemployment, and increase in the so-called marginal (shantytown-dwelling) population.
