Abstract

The April issue of Monthly Review containing parts of Fidel Castro's closing speech at the Tricontinental, an article by Adolfo Gilly on the Tricontinental, and an editorial commentary, has evoked a more passionate response among readers than any issue we can remember in the magazine's seventeen-year-old history. In June we published some severely critical letters and a translation of a communication which first appeared in the Uruguayan weekly Marcha pointing out serious inaccuracies in Gilly's article. Since then we have had a steady stream of communications, written and verbal, favorable and unfavorable. It seems clear that the time has come, first, to clear up some misunderstandings; and second, to attempt to focus attention and discussion on the real issues raised in and by the April MR.
