Telling and Teaching

Abstract

In the June 1965 Review of the Month, the editors of Monthly Review argue that the main task of socialists in America is to teach, to "tell the truth—that capitalism and imperialism are doomed, that the socialist revolution is the only road to salvation." As the meaningful alternative to inaction, incoherent protest, and "shallow reformism," socialists in the United States can (1) help the world socialist movement to acquire a deeper understanding of American imperialism; and (2) teach fundamental Marxist truths to Americans.
