(1) Peoples' China exploded a nuclear bomb; pushed open the carefully guarded doors of the exclusive Nuclear Club, and sat down without a by-your-leave at the technological summit, with the United States, the Soviet Union, Britain, and France. Once again invention, ingenuity, enterprise, courage, and mass action have broken down monopoly barriers and made a mockery of the "awesome might" of military power. Was it not Dulles who said: "We must look upon the Peking regime as impermanent rather than permanent?"
