Abstract

The term "fascism" is often applied indiscriminately to all reactionary police states. It has always seemed to us that this usage is too broad to have analytic value: any classification which throws together Franco, Chiang Kai-shek, Stroessner, Verwoerd, Salazar, and the Shah of Iran tends to obscure rather than illuminate the nature of the regimes with which these names are associated.
