Abstract

It is obviously impossible to analyze the Middle Eastern situation as a whole in a few pages. And yet there is not much point in trying to do less. The meaning of historical situations is never to be found in even the most painstaking examination of individual events and aspects. There is no choice but to look at the entire canvas if what is sought is understanding of the picture painted on it.
