Abstract

That the present is but a fleeting moment between the past and the future was never so vividly clear to me as in the five weeks that I spent in Moscow recently. During that time I spoke to many people: to ordinary citizens, the proverbial "man in the street," students, university teachers, scientific workers, and writers, to both members and non-members of the Communist Party.
