Abstract

G. D. H. Cole, the Grand Old Man of British socialism, posing the awkward dilemmas of the world socialist movement, has asked for the creation of a World Order of Socialists. In two articles in The New Statesman and Nation (January 15, 22, 1955), he surveys the ruins of the socialist movement in Western Europe and declares, in effect, that socialism cannot be achieved by parliamentary methods, country by country.
