Abstract

The so-called White case—actually, of course, it involves the whole gamut of charges made by Bentley and Chambers—has been widely interpreted as a mere political maneuver by the Republicans to offset recent electoral defeats and to blow up the Communist bogy as the main issue in next year's Congressional elections. That this is one aspect of the affair is, of course, obvious and indeed has been openly and even boastfully admitted by the chairman of the Republican National Committee.
