Abstract

Any serious attempt to understand and appraise the Korean situation must start from two crucially important facts. First, while the Korean war started as a war between Koreans on both sides, within less than a week the South Korean army had been effectively knocked out and the war was transformed into a war between Koreans on one side and Americans on the other.
