Abstract

In my remarks today, I want to situate privatization generally, and its manifestations in the urban context specifically, in a global perspective. I am employing the phrase "global perspective" not in its common usage (to mean a comparison of national patterns of privatization) but rather in order to consider the phenomenon that has come to be known as globalization and the impact of this capacious analytic category on urban policy and governance issues—one of the most central of which is privatization.
