Abstract

At the time of the Russian revolution, in 1917, the capitalist world's great powers were embroiled in a war that could well be seen as portending the system's collapse. Three-quarters of a century later, as socialism's first epoch draws to a close, the capitalist system officially breathes triumphalism and invincibility.
