The above title is taken from a short article published just eight years ago (March-April 1980) in Challenge magazine. What is amazing about the article is its uncanny prescience; what is ironical is that as Chairman of the Fed, hence the world's top central banker, Mr. Greenspan is playing out the role he foresaw the central bankers of the world would be forced into—with consequences far removed from anything he, or anyone else for that matter, could consider desirable. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.
