Abstract

"Compared with a relatively stable West," Samir Amin wrote in 1976, "which, until now, has been able to overcome its crises…without suffering major shocks, the periphery is a world in which class relationships are in a state of upheaval. This is the primary driving force of contemporary history." (Monthly Review, June 1977, p. 31) Iran is once again proving the profound truth of this observation.
