I was interested to read the article "Liberation and Pan- Africanism," by Azinna Nwafor (Monthly Review, November 1973). The author has raised some very important and difficult issues. He would, I think, agree that Nkrumah was the most outstanding Pan-Africanist of his time. Consequently, an article on the subject of Pan-Africanism during this period is essentially a study of Nkrumah's political actions and writings, and it is Nwafor's assessment of Nkrumah's role on which I would like to comment. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.
