Abstract

M.R. Bhagavan, who teaches economics at Bedford College of the University of London, spent part of last year in Tanzania studying Tanzanian politics and economics and working in a Ujamaa village (collective agricultural village). While in Dar es Salaam he met what he describes as "some brilliant and articulate radical socialist critics of the government, some of whom were students and some on the teaching faculty." They agreed to participate in an informal symposium, which was taped, transcribed, and edited by Mr. Bhagavan. The Tanzanian participants preferred to remain anonymous. —The Editors
