The two pieces that follow were presented in a series of discussions on topics of current interest in a course on political economy at American University in the 1970 fall semester. There were two speakers on each topic. In the case of "The Impact of U.S. Foreign Policy on Underdeveloped Countries," Harry Magdoff led off, while on "The Future of Socialism," Paul Sweezy responded to a presentation by Robert Heilbroner. —The Editors
