Abstract

Developments in the highly industrialized Western societies in the last few years have, generally speaking, found the traditional Left of these countries completely unprepared. At the same time it may be assumed that these experiences will prove to be highly valuable to the "new" Left and mark it politically in the coming years. Taken together, the upsurge of the liberation movement of Afro-Americans in the United States, the May 1968 events in France, and the wildcat strike movement which took place in most of Europe during the past year or so have done much to destroy the myths about social stability of advanced capitalist nations and added to the political experiences of the Left.
