Abstract

Capitalist spokesmen in the United States and Europe continually point to Iran as a model of a successful "developing country," carrying out sweeping social and economic reforms and moving resolutely forward on the path of rising living standards and greater social justice. There have indeed been far-reaching reforms; but, as the following article makes clear on the basis of official data, the beneficiaries have been not the impoverished masses but the landlords and capitalists. The article, written by an Iranian graduate student of sociology now in the United States, is reprinted by permission from the July 1968 issue of Iran Report, organ of the Confederation of Iranian Students. -The Eds.
