Abstract

Our review of World Events in the January Monthly Review began with a statement on the instability of the pound sterling as an international currency. We noted that international transactions in the capitalist world use the pound sterling and the dollar interchangeably and collectively, so that anything which influences one is bound to influence the other. We also remarked on the anxiety felt in the United States lest the pound sterling be devalued with disastrous consequences for international economic relations.
