United States special interests in Europe are easily understood. Most United States citizens were either born in Europe or else they are the children or grandchildren of Europeans. The manners, customs, and traditions of most Americans were brought over from Europe. Communication, trade, and travel keep North America and Europe in close contact. Historically, the United States was a European colony.
