Abstract

As we write, the situation in Birmingham is still fluid, and it would be foolish to try to make predictions for even as short a period as between going to press and publication. But there are many aspects of the Birmingham crisis which can be usefully discussed regardless of what happens next. In what follows we touch upon some of them, without making any attempt at a systematic analysis.
