Abstract

China's decision to speed large-scale industrialization is one of the major developments of our time. It is a most dramatic event considering that three-quarters of China's population is still peasant, only recently emerged from thousands of years of feudal conditions. It is an undertaking of colossal proportions in view of the fact that three short years ago modernized industry represented a mere ten percent of China's production.
